Here are links to websites I like:

  • Auto EuropeClick here to rent your car and for the best customer service on the planet.
  • Aesse Car Rental:  If you are taking the train from Rome or Florence to Chiusi, this agency is right across the street from the train station.  Sara will take good care of you!  Please mention Gail's Great Escapes.  Grazie!

  • Elizabeth Cochrane, Artist:  Our favorite artist in Tuscany.  Contact Liz to visit her studio in the heart of Montisi.  Her beautiful paintings are wonderful momentos of your time in Tuscany.
  • Taverna in Montisi:  Our favorite restaurant in Tuscany, Da Roberto, is located at the edge of the village of Montisi with a lovely garden setting.  Roberto encourages you to have a caffe in the garden, a leisurely lunch on the terrace, or a tasty dinner of local specialties with wine carefully selected by him.  You'll have a great time!  Please call to book:  0577 845159.
  • Ballooning in Tuscany:  See Tuscany from the sky with Robert Etherington.  Breathtaking!
  • Hotel Burchianti in Florence:  A small (11 rooms) charming hotel in the most perfect location.  Tell Mario you are a friend of mine, and ask about the studio apartment on the top floor with the little balcony.  There's a view of the Duomo that will take your breath away, and it's the same price as a room!  Enchanting.
  • Slow Travel:  a great site for travel recommendations and to meet fellow travelers.  Be careful....it's addictive!
  • Il Girasole: in Cortona, a beautiful shop with reproduction Etruscan jewelry and other artisan gifts and crafts from the best in Tuscany.  Owned by Alessandra Federici, who also gives killer cooking classes!
  • MedJet Assist:   medical evacuation assistance for medical emergencies. MedJetAssist provides an invaluable service - they bring you to your home hospital. I recommend this for all travelers.
  • Visiting Provence:  if you happen to wander into Provence by mistake (or on purpose!), please contact my good friend, Kathy Wood, for a great experience in France.
  • Slow Travel Tours: is an informal affiliation of small-group tour operators who offer personalized trips in Italy, France and other European countries.
  • Cinque Sorelle:  This new website will tell you about the five sister villages in the Montisi and Trequanda area of Southern Tuscany.  It includes, Petroio, Castelmuzio, and San Giovanni D'Asso, all villages of medieval charm and history.  You'll want to visit all five!
  • Agriturismo Cretaiole: is located near Pienza, where Isabella and Carlo will welcome you into their lively Italian life.  They have created a warm inviting family atmosphere where you will enjoy the fruits of their farm labors.  You may even decide to participate in grape and olive harvesting, truffle hunting, gardening, or cooking classes!
