The Villa is located on the main street of the ancient village of Montisi, with a large private garden on the south side that extends to the edge of the old city wall. It offers unrestricted views of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The oldest part of the house lies along the main street of the village and was built prior to the 15th century. In the 1700’s an olive mill was built on the south or garden side. This mill operated well into the 1900s. The mill stone can be seen on the terrace in the herb and vegetable garden. The restoration, completed in spring 2004, was undertaken to preserve and enhance the history and character of the house. At the same time, care was taken to provide all the modern conveniences to make a vacation stay comfortable for families and groups. The house is 4,400 square feet on two floors.
Living areas
The entry from the street has a 14’ high, double barrel vaulted brick ceiling. The living room, with fireplace, and dining room have high beamed ceilings. This room is 20’ x 40’ opening to a grape-arbored terrace, garden beyond, edge of the city wall and the view. Dining room and outdoor terrace spaces comfortably accommodate 12 to 20. The breakfast room can seat 12 at table.
The house also has a piano and ceiling fans in all the bedrooms.
The kitchen is designed in the original brick cantina and will serve many cooks with a modern 5 burner gas stove with oven, wood-burning grill, travertine counters, 2 sinks and 2 dishwashers.
Outdoors
Along the south side of the house is a shaded terrace and outdoor dining area sheltered under a maturing grape arbor. An enclosed breakfast room/limonaia opens from the kitchen. The limonaia has a new fireplace and the 4 sets of French doors can be opened to the garden. The private garden is enclosed by ancient garden and city walls and contains fruit trees, vegetable and herb beds, a sunny terrace and swimming pool, next to a small fish pond, a shaded sitting area, all overlooking the valley and Castelmuzio to the south.
